What products are commonly given out?
Our goal is to consistently offer main food groups including protein, dairy, produce and grains. Any given day will include options of each of these major food groups. Hygiene items are available on a less regular basis.
Where does the food come from?
The majority of our food product is ordered from Food Lifeline and Northwest Harvest on a weekly basis. PSLA also participates in the WSDA's The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) which connects surplus produce, meat, dairy, and dry goods with food banks. Finally, PSLA maintains a grocery rescue partnership with a local Amazon distribution warehouse.
How long does shopping take?
Shopping is fast! It often takes 5-10 minutes at most to go through all of our options. However, waiting in line can add another 15-20 minutes to your visit, so please plan accordingly.
What do I need to bring?
There is nothing you specifically need to bring to receive our services, but there are a couple items that will improve your experience. Your ID makes it easy to find your profile in our database. If it's your first time, please be prepared to answer our voluntary new client survey which covers basic demographic information we use to apply for funding.
- Reusable grocery bags will make shopping a breeze - though we provide paper bags upon request.
- We will also provide reusable face masks for any customers who need one.
- Weather appropriate clothes, when possible, will help keep you comfortable when there is a wait.
We ask everyone to be patient as we connect with and address the unique needs of our community members. People with language barriers or disabilities may need more time, but we believe it is well worth taking the time to do our job well. Please know that we would take the same time for you.
